Most of these birds are dependent of secondary vegetation that changed, according to the composition and structure through time. As the vegetation matures, one special bird after another drops out, moving to more suitable habitat on younger islands. They, no longer inhabit places that were excellent for species several years ago. Thus, these species no longer inhabit these places that were excellent for them several years ago occupying other places in the island. Conversely, new islands that were little more than sandbars a few years back, are now excellent places to look for some of the most special birds.
